“In a Cathedral City”

squares upon a white
air, on the empty
black where you were de-
ranged to not
appear, a bright arrange of the
clear as i will always now fear it.

had you never been my
absence there in a muffled white
stone or the shading of
blood and apprehension, i’d
feel you may have been here but

subsequently the eye will di-
verge and with you be not
with you. the eye will
rest and have with nothing.

salata

the child of me and my mother she
slides. the fennel shines
outside, the too much warmth
inside. the airy space of the
dark for thoughts of
fall. into the blue, out in the
garden, the had and the
known--fine
spikes.

if, tomorrow, you should leave
me or twist shining
surfaces, a
blue king mows down our
tresses and a train de-
rails. sparkling plant is in a
saladbowl.

the child shakes her
hair and wants to eat. the
games and the picnic,
caught in the
sun, the air out of the
head explodes and the
herb crash.

if, a gardner, he
caught you, herb, a
name he called you
in, up, off, a
track and
shatter, our
grass, blue with
tumble.
