Let me tell you

Let me tell you

that you are the taste of September’s violet skies
caught in my throat at 21.

The sharp gasp
of an exposed silhouette
charging black into the Pacific.

– try it –
you said.

My hands are beaches
hugging coastlines of bone and flesh.

I found
the temperate cedar forest
in the clean fragrance of your neck:
the heavy incense of wet bark, ferns, earth

What remains of the flat smooth stones
I placed cold on your bare stomach.

Only a full Canadian moon.

A silver quarter
holding the tattered corner
of a page.

Behind shut eyes
the ocean is nothing more
than a metronome
keeping my heart.
