...Child

Porcelain innocence
Tainted by the greed of man,
Startled by the relentless
Tick, tick, ticking
Of the grandfather clock.
Knees drawn to her head
(Like she’s waiting to get out
The same way she came in)
While they scream
And tear around her
In the hatred that they’ve made.
The shattering of treasures
Meets the breaking of her heart,
And while the broken love lays still
The splintering of her mind runs rampant.
She cries out to them to hold her
But they hold on to their rage.
She shakes and shivers on the floor.
Understanding
What she’s far too young to have to understand:
That they have made her too
