Meditations on My Present House
(A Song)

I was walking down my street
Admiring the walnut trees and the sunlight
All of a sudden stood up and spoke to me
It said “You stand on the ground and you watch the clouds blow
But you gotta go where you want to go
These walnut trees are holding you down from the sea
And open sky”

(Chorus)
Everything that ever was
Is right here in an afternoon
Our lives are the songs
We sing around ourselves
In this space this place this time
I look around, I call it mine
Just to claim a little peace
In all that’s here in an afternoon

I like to join institutions and quit them
I like to start jobs and never end them
I leave bits of myself around
Like dust in the road

(Repeat Chorus)
Everything that ever was
Is right here in an afternoon
Our lives are the songs
We sing around ourselves...
