An aerial view of time

A candle flickers in the wind
the gas station attendant pauses
A leaf blows by, a dog barks
The baby cries, the uncle dies
Movement caught the corner of my eye
the light of a star shines from the past
the dark glow a shadow casts
her body glitters in the rain
hair wet on her cheek
the boy clears his throat
somewhere the sun sets
the tide is Iowan the other side
where memories float around
and capture silent sounds
in an aerial view of time
life might look different
out in the road
that leads me to you that brings you home
right where you left it all along.
