What Shall We Make of...

What shall we make of the woman who roams?
What shall we make of her small dancing feet?
of the ribbons of havoc she wreaks in her streak.
What shall we make of her delves in the dark,
of her eyes that glimmer and cast off a spark.
And what shall we make of her lover at bay,
swimming to shore when she casts him away?
What will we see in her unearthly sight,
in the voices of reason she continues to fight?
What shall we make of her untrodden path?
of her laugh?
Shall we bother to contemplate the tears on her gown?
If one called out so slightly would she dare look around?
What shall we make of her discarded image
when the cold winter air comes to blow her away?
Shall we stray?

Fleeting Thoughts of Him

Full form he sits on the bed hand in curled tousled hair
A figure merely a figure in this time frame—
in this segment of my existence.
Pass will be he like all the others, drift to the wind as the sand.
I long to thrust my empty feet in the icy depths of the sea
Meet me will he halfway stripped bare
thus the persistence of only his figure is obsolete.
Toss his things to the sea with me
so I may shred them and sing and flee
flee from this figure who looms in my head
as an enigma too would that I’d soon grow to dread.
Who once I thought intermingled with me
shared me indulged me riveted me continues on
pursuing me, ravishing me while I am absent afloat and aware.
