Count On Me

I know. I write such stupid stuff (and not
Very original either), with all
The syllables in their proper places;
But then, no one counts anyway. So why?
Why ten thumps thumps thumps (is that enough) thumps
With each martial line demanding no more
And no less, like a pinched nosed bookkeeper
Debiting my depleted account - o?
Why? Because like Malvolio to all
The maids and fools counting n their fingers,
It just does not work without a straightman.
But then, a whisper does not huff and puff.
Nor do butterflies land, but merely pause,
To taste each poetic moment, and then
Move along to the next well formed flower.
I know - I write such stupid stuff (and not
Original either), but count on me.
