The Night Sky

in a dream
lover’s lips met
because of money,
coins clenched in teeth.
the other lover’s lips and teeth reach
for this treasure;
lips brought together
moving together and between each.

coins crash against teeth, slip into
the throat
choking and blinding.
a meteor shower
of fingers
atomize the other body:
stars collapse in space as
consciousness scurries
riveted to only the
black corners of the house.

the lover kneels beside
this vast other,
and gently rests coins on closed eyes.
the coins quiver into place and
remain for the brief moment
of a smile,
as waves lap against the bed
and lightning
snaps across the night sky.
