Meanwhile, in Another Hemisphere

Still night broken by a flute
whistling from the radio
Snow turned to rain water
forms a tidal bore to the river
Yellow light reflects from black
slick as oil In night coolness,

Black tendrils of a sodden tree
dance outside my pane,
frame my view
as the music frames my mood
the street-river bores on

This weariness feels good, like peace.
The flute sounds
I watch the snow patches melting
away from brown-green old grass
on a tiny bank of a front yard,
apartments where ail sleep,

Across the river street
The other side of the world.

Tale of Two Nice People

I, betraying empty meaninglessness
refuse proffered convenience
to continue a search without knowing
what I search for

You, scarred still unaware
agreeing what we did wasn’t right,
holding on to elderly superiority
while coping with fear of sharper solitude

We, which no longer is
or maybe never was, a unit
cleave and depart
Too nice to betray ourselves, our needs
In hollowly holding each other.
