[It was the spring of life when first we met]

It was the spring of life when first we met,
Warm breezes ending winter’s lonely chill.
The birth of love like blossoms burst, and yet,
If fruit to bear, unsure, or frost to kill.
True love one’s soul lays bare in hope’s release,
Runs sure and swift to summer’s sultry season,
There languid lies, full ripe, our souls at ease
And passion rules with law above all reason.
The sun t’wards Capricorn wills longer nights
Time slows as shadows linger into day,
Life rich, imbued with love’s warm golden light,
The harvest near, in love’s embrace we lay.
For us the dead of winter holds no fear.
Love borne in spirit moves beyond the year.
