[Willowy reeds stretch upwards]

Willowy reeds stretch upwards
reaching for a blue horizon
Bending and writhing
they do the prarie dance
answering prayers sought
in the night light
Old wives tales evoked
in a full moon

Like a sea of gold
yellow straw to the untrained eye
Born of dust and dirt
and hope and tears
Forboding tales of the lean years
haunt every step and seed
Sowed with dreams and love
to fulfill the need
of the prarie dance

[Black heart]

Black heart
of a river
that ebbs and flows
over the dark plains of innocence.

Call after the wind
hollow dreams, they echo
Like a raven on the snow
a spot against innocence.

Milky waters.
