Editor’s Message:
Last year for some unfathomable reason, Fathom did not materialize. The magazine was all pasted up and ready to go, but the file didn’t quite make it to the print shop. (Perhaps the final paper crunch overwhelmed the editorial staff – a crisis I can identify with!) Anyway, to be brief, the aborted file ended up in my lap.
Determined to get Fathom off the ground this time around, our board tried to solicit contributions fairly early in the year, but only a few trickles of quality stuff came in by the deadline date. Disillusioned, we initially contemplated writing reams of hack poetry under various pseudonyms to pad out the issue, but finally decided on a much more obvious (and, I am certain, aesthetically pleasing) solution – a compilation issue of the past two years. So, here you go – the best of ‘86 and ‘87. We hope you enjoy and are inspired enough by it to contribute to its progeny. Less critics, more creation!

C.M.
(A warm collective embrace to all involved.)
