The Wrinkling of a Paper Heart

I’d like to write a poem for you
Some slick sounding sayings
Melded together in rhythm and rhyme.

But I fear that you might laugh
At the old-fasioned boy
Exposing his heart in a poem.

There it lies before you
No heavier than a sigh
Captured on a frozen window.

Will you take it up and place it at your bedside
Or pass it by
Laid bare as carrion for the scavengers of the world.
