Nineteen

before the nod
he always swore
the needle said something
‘bout the kinder childhood sky
later he always came for me
with paper bag peaches
smiling like Duanne Allman
talking ‘bout Mississipi girls
while we kicked around streets
looking for no-cover blues bars
filled with sun-tanned box-car bums
and, goddamn it
I can’t forgive him
cause it was only myself I found
when he finally broke his veins
and gol away

Sharon

dancing
as sparkle-ice sunlight
she flows
amidst winter winds
she holds
her childhood
warm and close
beneath
young breasts
melting
in passionate innocence
upon love’s
tender lips
